Ranchi, March 11 (NationPress) Infamous gangster Aman Sahu, who faced allegations of over 150 offenses spanning various states including Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, met his end in a police shootout on Tuesday morning in Chainpur, Palamu district, according to authorities.

Sahu had been incarcerated in Raipur jail for the last few months. The police of Jharkhand had taken him on remand for interrogation regarding recent criminal activities.

During his transfer from Raipur to Ranchi on Monday night, members of his gang reportedly ambushed the police convoy close to Andhari Dhoda in the Chainpur police station area, utilizing a bomb. This assault caused the police vehicle to veer off course.

As stated by the police, amidst the confusion, Sahu managed to seize a firearm from a police officer and attempted to flee while firing shots. In response, the police fatally shot him, with one police officer sustaining injuries during the confrontation.

The Palamu Superintendent of Police (SP) Reeshma Rameshan confirmed the death of Aman Sahu, noting that an ambulance was sent to the incident site.

Aman Sahu hailed from Matve village in the Burmu police station area of Ranchi and had connections to the infamous gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Previously held in Saraikela jail, he was moved to Raipur on a production warrant issued by Chhattisgarh Police on October 14, 2024.

Sahu received sentences in two different cases—six years for a criminal case in Ramgarh and three years in another case in Latehar. His gang recently took responsibility for a shooting incident that targeted coal transporter Bipin Mishra in Ranchi, with his close associate Mayank Singh publicly discussing it on social media.

Authorities also suspect the involvement of Sahu's gang in the recent homicide of NTPC Deputy General Manager (Dispatch) Kumar Gaurav in Hazaribagh. The police were seeking to question Sahu regarding both incidents.

On Monday, DGP Anurag Gupta noted that many recent occurrences in Jharkhand are being orchestrated from within prison walls.

Addressing the media outside the Assembly on Monday, DGP Gupta identified three primary gangs—led by Aman Sahu, Aman Srivastava, and Vikas Tiwari—as the architects behind numerous crimes in the state.

“Even while incarcerated, they persist in plotting crimes using virtual foreign numbers for WhatsApp calls. The police are monitoring them, though they face certain technical hurdles,” he mentioned.
