Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In a deeply troubling event that has rocked a family in Palamu, Jharkhand, a young man is reported to have murdered his cousin sister with an axe before taking his own life by stepping in front of a train just hours afterward. This tragic incident took place in the Sua Kaudiya locality, falling under the jurisdiction of the Sadar police station.
The suspect, named Bittu Kumar Singh, reportedly engaged in a fierce argument with his cousin sister, Khushboo Kumari, late on Sunday night. Khushboo was at her maternal uncle's residence for her educational pursuits when the dispute, allegedly stemming from a disagreement concerning a suspected romantic relationship, escalated.
In a moment of uncontrollable rage, Bittu is said to have struck Khushboo multiple times with an axe, known locally as a tangi, resulting in her immediate death. Following this horrific act, he fled the scene, assuring family members that he intended to end his own life as well.
The following morning, his body was discovered mutilated on a nearby railway track, confirming his suicide. Local villagers alerted the police, who promptly arrived at the scene and collected the axe used in the brutal crime. The double tragedy has left the family members in profound shock and grief, unable to console one another.
The in-charge of the Sadar police station, Lalji, stated that initial investigations suggest that the violent act was triggered by a romantic dispute. 'Based on family testimonies and initial findings, it seems that after killing his cousin, the man took his life possibly out of guilt or fear,' he mentioned.
Both bodies have been sent for a post-mortem examination at Medinirai Medical College Hospital. Investigations are ongoing, with police examining mobile call records and other pertinent evidence to establish the precise timeline of events.
