Palamu (Jharkhand), March 12 (NationPress) - Over 100 villagers reported illness due to a suspected food poisoning incident that occurred after a wedding feast in Bohita village within the Satbarwa block of Palamu district, Jharkhand, as per official reports on Thursday.
This alarming situation has caused significant concern among local residents. In response, the district administration has established a temporary medical camp at the village school to provide care for those affected.
Officials indicated that approximately 10 individuals are in serious condition and have been transferred to Medininagar Medical College and Hospital (MMCH) and the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Lesliganj for advanced treatment.
Locals reported that Harishankar Chandravanshi, a resident of Bohita, hosted a feast for villagers and guests in celebration of his son Lavkush Sharma's wedding on Wednesday evening. The menu allegedly featured puris, vegetables, and bundi.
Hours after consuming the meal, numerous guests began to suffer from symptoms including vomiting, diarrhea, dizziness, and intense abdominal pain. By Thursday morning, reports of illness began to emerge from multiple households.
Villager Sudeshwar Singh noted that some individuals experienced sudden weakness and dizziness while going to the fields in the morning, with the number of affected individuals quickly surpassing 100.
In light of the rising number of patients, the health department repurposed the primary school at Pokharpar Tola into a temporary treatment facility. Due to a lack of available beds, several patients received saline treatment on mats placed on the school veranda.
Palamu's Civil Surgeon, Dr. Anil Kumar Srivastava, arrived at the village with a team of health officials to supervise relief efforts. He instructed that critically ill patients be urgently transported to hospitals by ambulance, while others receive care at the temporary camp.
Four ambulances have been dispatched to the region to address emergencies.
The Civil Surgeon stated that the occurrence seems to be a case of food poisoning, although the precise cause will be determined following food sample testing. A medical team has been stationed in the village to closely monitor the ongoing situation.
