Patna, July 15 (NationPress) - The Patna Police have successfully resolved the shocking murder case of Advocate Jitendra Kumar, who was fatally shot on July 13 in the Sultanganj area of Patna City. Eight suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident, as confirmed by Patna SSP Kartikeya Sharma on Tuesday.
Jitendra Kumar, who resided in Mohammadpur and practiced law at the Patna Civil Court, was gunned down near a tea stall on Ashok Raj Path around 2 PM while he was out for tea.
According to SSP Kartikeya Sharma, “The assailants were waiting at the tea stall for the advocate's arrival. After receiving a payment in advance, they carried out the murder in broad daylight and attempted to flee but were tracked down by the Patna Police.”
Despite being rushed to PMCH, Jitendra succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
During the investigation, it was revealed that the lawyer's elder daughter’s boyfriend, Sonu, orchestrated the killing due to Jitendra’s disapproval of their relationship. Sonu, an AC mechanic who is married, allegedly promised Rs 1.5 lakh to the hired assassins Aditya Kumar and Anuranjan Kumar for the job.
An advance payment of Rs 10,000 was made, after which the crime was committed in broad daylight. Sonu assured the gang that the remaining payment would be made once things settled down.
“Eight suspects, all from the Alamganj police station area of Patna City, have been arrested. Aditya Kumar was the primary shooter who fired three shots at Jitendra, while Anuranjan Kumar was the getaway driver,” reported Sharma.
The Patna Police have confiscated a pistol, two magazines, and five live cartridges, along with a stolen bike used in the crime and additional evidence related to the case.
“The deceased lawyer's daughter is currently being interrogated for further insights. She had a court marriage with Sonu in 2022 and lived with him for a short period. Since Jitendra was opposed to their union, she had been residing with her father in Mohammadpur. Her involvement in the murder case has yet to be determined,” added Sharma.
