Jitendra Singh Alwar quits as Congress Assam in-charge after BJP's 82-seat sweep
Senior Congress leader Jitendra Singh Alwar on Monday, 4 May resigned as the party's General Secretary in-charge of Assam, taking personal responsibility for the Congress's dismal showing in the recently concluded Assam Assembly elections, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a landslide victory. The resignation, addressed to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, takes effect immediately.

In his letter to Kharge, Singh described the election outcome as
