New Delhi, June 3 (NationPress) In a groundbreaking move for the Indian Railways, the nation’s inaugural dedicated Vande Bharat maintenance depot is being constructed in the Jodhpur division of Rajasthan.

This cutting-edge facility is located in the Bhagat Ki Kothi area and is slated for completion by the end of this year.

Anurag Tripathi, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Jodhpur, provided insights into the project, emphasizing its significance at a national level and its distinct attributes.

“It brings great joy to the residents of Jodhpur that the first Vande Bharat maintenance depot is being established here. We anticipate its completion by the year-end,” Tripathi stated during an interview with IANS.

He also mentioned, “This modern depot, constructed at a cost of Rs 167 crore, will boast state-of-the-art amenities. All facilities required for train maintenance will be developed in a contemporary manner.”

The depot will cover an area of approximately 600 meters and will include three pit lines, allowing for the simultaneous maintenance of three Vande Bharat trains. “This facility is unique, with Vande Bharat trains from all over the country coming here for maintenance,” Tripathi highlighted.

Vande Bharat, recognized as India’s first semi-high-speed train, is witnessing a rise in its numbers. However, the lack of dedicated depots has meant that these trains are currently maintained at existing traditional depots. The upcoming Jodhpur facility is one of only four exclusive Vande Bharat depots planned nationwide.

In addition to the maintenance depot, Tripathi disclosed that further projects are underway in the region. “In addition to the Vande Bharat depot, we are planning another project worth Rs 200 crore for the Jodhpur division. This will include a workshop related to Vande Bharat and a training center. While work has yet to commence, we will soon initiate the tender process,” he noted.

Regarding staffing for the new depot and workshop, Tripathi confirmed that hiring will follow the Railway Recruitment Board’s established procedures.

“As new establishments like depots and workshops are created, there will naturally be a need for new personnel. The Railways has a recruitment framework in place to onboard new candidates,” he elaborated.

The workshop and training center will be situated near the main depot to promote operational efficiency and facilitate staff training.
