Previously, on November 13, India and Spain conducted the 8th round of Foreign Office Consultations, where they evaluated the full range of their bilateral relations. This meeting was co-chaired by Sibi George, Secretary (West) at the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), and Diego Martinez Belio, Secretary of State for Foreign and Global Affairs of Spain. The discussions involved exchanging views on significant regional and global issues, particularly the joint efforts against terrorism.
According to a post by the MEA on X, the conversations during the meeting encompassed a thorough review of bilateral relations, especially in light of the upcoming India-Spain Year of Culture, Tourism, and Artificial Intelligence. They also discussed mutual concerns regarding regional and global issues, including the fight against terrorism, reinforcing India's stance of zero tolerance towards such threats.
In October 2025, EAM Jaishankar conveyed his greetings to his Spanish counterpart and the citizens of Spain on their National Day, emphasizing India's dedication to strengthening ties.
In May of the previous year, EAM Jaishankar engaged in a telephonic conversation with Jose Manuel Albares to discuss India's decisive and measured approach to cross-border terrorism.
In a related post on X, he remarked, "Had a conversation with FM Jose Manuel Albares of Spain about India's firm and measured response to cross-border terrorism." This dialogue followed the launch of 'Operation Sindoor' by the Indian armed forces, targeting nine terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) as a response to the grievous terror attack on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.
