Chandigarh, July 8 (NationPress) The President of the BJP and Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda is set to visit the disaster-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh in Mandi district on July 9.
Nadda returned to the national capital on July 5 after spending several days in the hill state. According to BJP state President Rajeev Bindal, “BJP national President Jagat Prakash Nadda will tour Mandi district tomorrow and will assess the damage caused by severe rains.”
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, who reached Daisy village in the Seraj Assembly constituency after trekking 5 km, reported that 11 individuals have been missing since the disaster struck on the morning of July 1.
“The disaster has not only inflicted damage on the main roads but also completely obliterated walking paths, making them unsafe for travel,” he noted.
Thakur reached Daisy village after navigating treacherous and slippery uphill paths. Upon arrival, he interacted with the affected residents and offered his condolences. Thakur described the situation as dire.
“Most houses have been utterly destroyed, and agricultural fields have been washed away. We never anticipated such devastation here. Whenever we visited, the locals exuded joy, but today, their eyes are filled with tears and their hearts are heavy. Many have lost not only their livelihoods but also their loved ones. It is hard to find words of comfort in such circumstances,” he expressed.
The former Chief Minister criticized the Congress government for failing to dispatch officials to deliver ration and relief supplies.
“Despite nine days passing since the calamity, people have yet to receive assistance. One must visit the area to grasp the extent of the disaster and the urgent need for relief, rescue, rehabilitation, and restoration efforts. In these times, the presence of administrative officials and government representatives is crucial,” the Leader of Opposition added.
