New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) The former Indian cricket star Shikhar Dhawan expressed profound sorrow over the tragic passing of 26-year-old Tarun Kumar in Uttam Nagar, Delhi. He denounced the violent escalation that followed a trivial Holi incident and urged for the most severe punishment for those involved.

In a poignant message on X (previously Twitter), Dhawan stated: "I am deeply saddened by the heartbreaking loss of Tarun Kumar in Uttam Nagar. It’s truly devastating that something as trivial as a child tossing a water balloon during Holi could lead to such horrific violence. We must uphold our humanity. My thoughts are with his family, and I hope the perpetrators receive the strictest penalties."

This unfortunate event took place on March 4 during Holi festivities in JJ Colony, Hasthsal village, Uttam Nagar.

As per police and media sources, an 11-year-old girl from Tarun's family accidentally threw a water balloon filled with colored water while playing on their terrace. The balloon splashed on a woman from a neighboring family, igniting a dispute between the two families amidst existing tensions.

Although the situation seemed to have calmed down, later that night, upon returning home after celebrating Holi with friends, Tarun was reportedly attacked by a group of 15-20 individuals.

He was brutally assaulted with iron rods, hockey sticks, cricket bats, stones, and other weapons, sustaining critical injuries. Tarun was rushed to a medical facility but succumbed to his injuries on March 5.

Numerous others, including family members, were also injured during the violence. The Delhi Police have initiated a murder case under pertinent sections, including the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, as Tarun belonged to a Scheduled Caste.

Authorities have apprehended eight adults and one juvenile concerning the incident. The area has seen heightened tensions, leading to the deployment of police and Rapid Action Force personnel.

Local protests have erupted, with residents demanding immediate justice. In a related action, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi partially demolished an illegal structure belonging to one of the accused shortly after.

Tarun, who was enrolled in a digital marketing course to assist his family, is remembered by relatives as a diligent young man with aspirations for his future.

The incident has ignited outrage on social media and within the community, with many echoing Dhawan's call for exemplary punishment to deter such senseless acts of violence.
