His explosive social media post, published on Tuesday night, 22 July, came hours after he was repeatedly interrupted while addressing the Martyrs' Day rally organised by the Mamata Banerjee-led faction in Kolkata.

Banerjee, who serves as the principal legal strategist for the Mamata Banerjee-led faction, described two separate interruptions during his speech at Tuesday afternoon's rally. He stated that the first disruption occurred when Abhishek Banerjee — nephew of former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the party's general secretary — arrived at the dais midway through the address.

'At the time of addressing, Abhishek Banerjee reached the meeting place and he took five minutes to move around the stage, and hence, I had to stop my speech for five minutes. Similarly in the case of Didi (Mamata Banerjee), I had to stop my speech again. Thereafter I asked her whether I would continue or not. She said 'Yes' and I continued,' Kalyan Banerjee wrote in his post.

The 'Kalighat Sources' Accusation

Banerjee directed pointed criticism at what he termed 'Kalighat Sources' — a reference to the coterie operating from Mamata Banerjee's official residence in Kalighat, South Kolkata, from where the faction's core activities are coordinated. He alleged this grouping has been systematically feeding misleading information about him to the media.

'These 'Kalighat Sources' will destroy the party,' he wrote, in what amounts to one of the most direct public rebukes of the inner circle by a sitting Trinamool Congress parliamentarian in recent memory. Notably, Banerjee has been among the most steadfast loyalists of the Mamata faction even as the party has faced a significant internal rupture.

Banerjee took pains to document his continued commitment to the Mamata Banerjee-led faction at a time when a majority of party legislators have reportedly defected to a rival grouping under expelled TMC legislator Ritabrata Banerjee. He claimed that he was among the very few leaders who continued district-level outreach despite the risk of public backlash.

'During the last two months I went to so many districts to encourage our party workers,' he said, contrasting his conduct with other leaders who reportedly avoided field visits out of fear. This detail underscores the depth of the internal crisis gripping the Mamata faction.
