Mumbai, April 13 (NationPress) Vishal Gawli, the individual charged with the abduction, sexual assault, and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Kalyan, Maharashtra, was discovered dead by suicide in Taloja jail early Sunday morning.

Gawli, who had been incarcerated for around three and a half months, reportedly hanged himself with a towel in the toilet at approximately 3:30 am. His remains have been transported to JJ Hospital for a post-mortem examination, according to initial reports.

The Kharghar police have verified the incident, stating that the accused ended his life within the jail, leaving the police team "stunned."

The case against Gawli dates back to December 2024, when the young girl went missing from Kalyan.

After a complaint was lodged by her family, an initial case of abduction under Section 363 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was filed. Tragically, the girl's body was later found, prompting the authorities to add Section 302 (murder) of the IPC to the allegations.

During the ensuing investigation, police captured Gawli, the main suspect, from Buldhana. He remained in police custody until January 2, 2025.

Authorities also questioned ten individuals, including relatives and friends of the accused, as part of their inquiry.

The investigation revealed that Vishal Gawli had allegedly enticed the minor girl to his home within the Kolsewadi police station jurisdiction in Kalyan, where he sexually assaulted and then brutally murdered her.

He is then alleged to have hidden her body in a bag. Gawli, described as having "goon tendencies" and instilling "fear in the area where he resided," was a rickshaw puller with a reported history of five previous molestation cases registered against him, according to sources.

Further investigation unveiled the alleged complicity of Gawli's wife, Sakshi, in the disposal of the victim's body.

Reports indicate that after informing Sakshi, who is employed at a private bank, about the crime, the couple resolved to dispose of the body together.

Gawli allegedly transported the body in a bag using a friend's rickshaw to Bapgaon and discarded it there before fleeing to Buldhana, where he was ultimately apprehended by law enforcement.
