Karnataka: Elderly Mother and Daughter Struggle with Hunger, Urge Government Support

Gadag (Karnataka), Jan 12 (NationPress) An 88-year-old woman and her 64-year-old daughter residing in Mulgund town within Gadag district of Karnataka are enduring extreme hunger as they lack a breadwinner in their family. Furthermore, both women are not benefiting from any government schemes.
They have been tirelessly seeking assistance to meet their daily needs, yet no one from the government or local administration has stepped in to support these vulnerable women.
Despite their struggles, they manage to survive. Their only remaining family member, their grandson, who used to provide care, has also left them due to dire financial circumstances.
Subhanabi Bayali, aged 88, and her 64-year-old daughter Fatima, residents of Mulgund in Gadag district, have been denied access to government programs for the past two years, turning their lives into a daily battle.
Both women expressed their anguish, stating they are experiencing significant difficulties in obtaining food. This family has been excluded from the Annabhagya Yojana for two years and has also not benefited from the Grihalakshmi Yojana. Additionally, the gas cylinder facility has been discontinued.
Their situation worsened after their grandson departed from the household. Now, the two women are continuously appealing to local authorities for aid to meet their essential needs, but their pleas have gone unheard.
Fatima shared, "My son passed away around one and a half years ago. He used to earn for us. Now, we are just two elderly individuals sitting at home without any assistance. We reached out to those around us, expressing our dire situation, and thankfully, some neighbors provided us with basic supplies and financial help. However, our ration, gas supply, and Griha Lakshmi funds have ceased, leaving us confused about how to feed ourselves. We desperately need our ration card reinstated, financial support from Bhagya Lakshmi Yojana, and a gas cylinder. Without these three essentials, our lives have come to a halt."
A local resident, Hajeesha, commented, "They are not receiving any support from the government. It is crucial for the authorities to assist them and grant them their rights as underprivileged citizens. The condition of this mother and daughter duo is heartbreaking. They are in a state of despair. We have approached the District Magistrate and District Supply Officer on their behalf, but with no success. Both women are extremely impoverished; the mother is 88 years old, while the daughter is 64. They are enduring immense hardships at this stage of their lives."
