Mandya, Feb 8 (NationPress) A local court in Karnataka has sentenced a man to 20 years in prison for the crime of luring and raping a minor girl.
The ruling was delivered by POCSO special court Judge B. Dilip Kumar. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Bellur police station.
The accused, aged 33, received six months of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 2,500. According to the POCSO Act, the court has imposed a 20-year prison term and an additional fine of Rs 50,000. Furthermore, the court mandated a compensation of Rs 50,000 for the victim.
The crime took place in 2019 when the accused lured the 17-year-old victim and subsequently raped her, resulting in her pregnancy. Following this, the police filed a POCSO case and submitted a chargesheet against him.
In another incident, on January 14, a six-year-old girl was reportedly raped and murdered in Bengaluru. The tragic event happened around 7:30 p.m. while the victim's parents were away for construction work, leaving her alone at home in the Rammurthynagar police station area.
On July 10, 2024, a group of five men kidnapped two minor girls and sexually assaulted one of them near the Karnataka-Kerala border in the Kodagu district. The other girl managed to escape and notified the authorities, leading to the prompt arrest of all five suspects.
On July 19, 2024, police apprehended two individuals connected to the rape of a minor girl in Yadgir district. The assault occurred when the victim was attending to nature's call.
