Bengaluru, March 19 (NationPress) The Karnataka Police Department has taken disciplinary action by suspending five police personnel for their involvement in playing cards inside the Wadi Police Station located in Chittapur taluk, Kalaburagi district. This decision came after a video capturing their activities went viral on social media.

The officers suspended include Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Mia, Head Constables Nagaraj, Saibanna, Imam, and Constable Nagabhushan.

The suspension was ordered by Kalaburagi SP Addur Srinivasulu, who also issued a notice to Sub-Inspector Tirumalesh demanding an explanation regarding the incident.

Reports indicate that the officers congregated on the first floor of the police station during their duty hours to engage in card games, with two of them visibly playing in their uniforms. The seven-second clip has sparked public outrage and has become a source of embarrassment for the Congress government in Karnataka as it emerged during the ongoing Assembly session.

This incident transpired in the constituency of RDPR, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge, who represents the Chittapur seat and oversees Kalaburagi.

In response to the incident, Minister Kharge remarked, 'Following the viral video showing police personnel engaged in gambling at the Wadi police station in Kalaburagi district, the concerned officers have been suspended, and a notice has been issued to the station's Sub-Inspector.'

He stated that after the video came to his attention, he instructed the district Superintendent of Police to investigate the matter and take appropriate action. The investigation revealed that the incident occurred several months prior, according to the statement.

'Our government will not tolerate any disciplinary violations by department staff or officials. There is no room for negligence in public service and law enforcement,' Kharge emphasized.
