Mysuru, Feb 15 (NationPress) Recent videos have emerged depicting the confrontation at Udayagiri Police Station in Mysuru, showcasing how a small group of officers effectively managed to control a large mob, receiving significant recognition for their actions.

In the footage, DCP Mutturaj is observed climbing atop his vehicle to instruct the crowd to disperse, while his fellow officers work to prevent the protesters from breaching the barricades outside the police station.

The police remarked that had the Udayagiri officers failed to handle the situation, it could have led to a scenario reminiscent of the DG Halli-KG Halli incident, where furious demonstrators set a police station ablaze due to an inflammatory social media post, demanding that the accused be surrendered to them. That incident resulted in three fatalities and over 50 injuries.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and Home Minister G. Parameshwara have praised the Udayagiri police for their adept management of the situation.

The government has also permitted the police to take decisive action against the rioters and instructed investigators to identify those responsible for inciting the unrest.

Meanwhile, the local court is expected to deliver its ruling on the bail request of the accused, Satish aka Panduranga, who was apprehended for allegedly sharing the objectionable content that ignited the violence. The defense attorney contended that the police applied Section 299 of the BNS Act incorrectly in this case.

The defense argued that the police arrested the suspect without confiscating his mobile device or presenting any substantial evidence to justify the arrest.

Additionally, the police were expected to show proof of the accused's intent to disparage any religion, yet no such evidence was submitted to the court.

Previously, the court had remanded Satish aka Panduranga to police custody for one day, while the prosecution had requested a five-day custody extension.

In relation to the Mysuru Udayagiri incident, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened a meeting at Cauvery Residence on Friday evening.

As of now, 16 individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack on the Karnataka police station, with police sources indicating that 1,000 people have been booked.

Previously, Karnataka Police detained Satish aka Panduranga, a resident of Kalyannagar in Mysuru, following a controversial social media post that included communal remarks about a specific community in light of the Aam Aadmi Party's defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, which escalated tensions in Mysuru city.

Despite police efforts to de-escalate the situation, even involving religious leaders to appeal for calm, the environment turned violent, resulting in the crowd hurling stones at the police station.
