Bengaluru, Feb 24 (NationPress) The Karnataka High Court granted permission on Monday for a demonstration opposing the recent assault on a police station in Mysuru. Previously, the state administration had denied authorization for the gathering and enforced prohibitory measures.
A bench led by Justice R. Devdas, while addressing a plea from the Rashtra Suraksha Janandolana Samiti, Mysuru, allowed the event to take place at the Mysuru Football Grounds.
The court mandated Mysuru City Police Commissioner Seema Latkar to support the event and required the organizers to submit a bond of Rs 1 lakh. The organizers were also assigned responsibility for any unforeseen incidents.
Furthermore, the court instructed that the demonstration should be peaceful and that no inflammatory remarks should be made.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka, upon arriving in Mysuru on Monday to participate in the protest, criticized the state government, asserting that it is guaranteeing the “Islamization of Karnataka” for electoral gains.
“The attack on the Udayagiri police station is an incident that should make the Congress government ashamed. The law was breached, and a faction of local Muslim rioters assaulted law enforcement and the police station. The government has conveyed to them that it desires only their votes and will permit them to act as they please,” Ashoka claimed.
“This has become the Congress government’s mantra. Their leaders are already making declarations that the rioters are merely children who lack knowledge. The police are under duress, officers are powerless, and they cannot take action against lawbreakers,” he asserted.
“The law and order situation in the state is worsening. Individuals are brandishing swords openly. Consequently, a protest is being organized to raise awareness. Until this government is removed, our struggle will persist. We have come to Mysuru to demonstrate,” he stated.
“They are engaging in various schemes to strengthen their Muslim voter base,” he alleged.
When inquired about the FIR against former BJP MP Pratap Simha related to the incident, Ashoka remarked that Simha regularly faces FIRs.
“When I served as Home Minister, he was a journalist. I had alerted him about a contract on his life and forcefully arranged security for him, despite his reluctance. He was not afraid for his life back then—do you believe he will fear this FIR now?” Ashoka questioned.
He further criticized the Congress, accusing it of imprisoning judges, journalists, and editors during the Emergency and lacking respect for democracy.
“A so-called intellectual made an offensive comment regarding Lord Ram in Mysuru. Did Hindu activists attack a police station? There will always be individuals who make such remarks. In this case, the person responsible for the social media post was apprehended, and the court granted him bail,” he noted.
“Police officers are intimidated by politicians and influential individuals. However, radical Muslims, who fear nothing, attacked the Udayagiri police station in Mysuru with stones, machetes, and swords. They had intended to set the police station ablaze, but law enforcement managed to thwart it,” Ashoka claimed.
“I, along with Pratap Simha and others, visited the police station to offer moral support. The police informed us that over 1,000 individuals were involved in the assault and that action would be taken based on CCTV footage. However, only 17 individuals have been arrested so far,” he emphasized.
“The primary suspect, a maulvi who delivered a hate speech, was detained two days ago. However, after Home Minister G. Parameshwara's visit to the police station, the arrest of the rioters ceased. The government is applying pressure, and the rioters are being shielded,” Ashoka alleged.
The Samiti and the BJP are organizing a large convention in Mysuru on Monday to protest against the alleged inaction by the Karnataka government regarding the Udayagiri police station attack.
As of now, 17 individuals, including an Islamic religious teacher who delivered the provocative hate speech, have been arrested in connection with the Udayagiri police station attack case.
