Power Struggle for Karnataka CM Position to Escalate Post-Budget: Ex-CM Bommai
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Haveri (Karnataka), March 1 (NationPress) The ongoing power struggle within the Congress-led Karnataka administration is set to escalate following the state Budget, remarked Basavaraj Bommai, former Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP, while discussing the leadership conflict between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
"This situation will evolve into a direct clash, leaving little room for reconciliation. We will observe how events unfold," Bommai stated.
In a media briefing in Haveri, the ex-Chief Minister expressed that the public has entirely lost confidence in the current state administration.
The voters are eager to oust the Congress-led government from power in Karnataka, he noted on Saturday.
"The intensity of public frustration is becoming increasingly evident among Karnataka Congress MLAs. There is a climate of uncertainty, with many legislators fearing they may not secure re-election. Some are traveling abroad, while others are retreating to resorts," he commented while critiquing the Karnataka government.
"The Congress leadership lacks effective oversight. In the upcoming days, the public will take action, sending them home—whether from Karnataka, Delhi, or abroad—by reclaiming control of the state," Bommai added.
Addressing a question regarding the murder of a minor boy in Shivamogga, the former Chief Minister described the event as heart-wrenching.
"There are concerns that early ganja use may have contributed to this incident. The BJP previously warned that ganja consumption had infiltrated schools in Karnataka, a claim now substantiated," Bommai noted.
"The Karnataka government must implement stringent measures. If communal sentiments arise among children, how can society advance? If leaders are preoccupied with their struggle for power, how will society function?" he inquired.
He criticized the Karnataka government for its failure in maintaining law and order as well as social harmony.
"Former Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa stands as the most senior leader of the BJP in the state. He is a formidable leader who has built and solidified the BJP's presence in Karnataka. His achievements during his tenure resonate with the public," Bommai said, lauding Yediyurappa.
"His determination and enthusiasm defy age. He has announced plans to tour the state once again to reinforce the party and reclaim power," he added.
"We are all eager to develop the BJP under his (B.S. Yediyurappa's) guidance and support. He is a valuable asset and a source of strength for the party, and leveraging that strength is essential," Bommai emphasized.
"Yediyurappa's 50 years in politics, including four terms as Chief Minister, equips him to provide the necessary guidance in countering the current Congress and ensuring good governance in the future," he remarked.
"Celebrating his 50 years of impactful public service will herald a political transformation in the 2028 Assembly elections, and we are thoroughly prepared for that," Bommai expressed.
When queried about re-integrating leaders who have departed the BJP through a 'ghar wapsi' initiative, he acknowledged that the issue necessitates serious discussion.
"This will be addressed in the BJP's core committee, with senior party leaders in Delhi making the final determination. The party is committed to taking all necessary steps to restore BJP's governance by 2028," he concluded.
