Key Takeaways
Haveri (Karnataka), March 1 (NationPress) Basavaraj Bommai, the former Chief Minister of Karnataka and current BJP MP, emphasized the collective responsibility to collaborate with the Centre for the safe return of Kannadigas and other Indians from Iran and other tumultuous regions in the Middle East.
Addressing the media in Savanur, Haveri district, he expressed that the ongoing US-Israel-Iran conflict necessitates proactive measures from the state government. Arrangements should be established through Kannadigas residing in Dubai and the Indian Embassy to provide immediate food and shelter for those stranded in Dubai and other affected Middle Eastern nations.
"Our obligation is to ensure the safe return of Kannadigas and fellow Indians to their homeland by working closely with the Government of India," he asserted.
Bommai labeled the conflict between the US and Iran as extremely concerning, indicating its potential repercussions for India.
The former Chief Minister pointed out that this war could significantly disrupt the petroleum industry and adversely affect the economy, stressing that the global community will inevitably bear the consequences of such a crisis.
He advocated for dialogue as a means to resolve the conflict before further lives are lost.
Bommai noted that many Middle Eastern countries are grappling with the effects of the war, leaving numerous Indians—especially Kannadigas—in vulnerable situations.
Many Kannadigas have sought employment in locations like Doha, Dubai, and Kuwait. Furthermore, travelers from Europe frequently transit through Dubai and Doha, where several are currently stranded.
The BJP leader acknowledged that the Centre has initiated various measures, and the state administration is also engaged in efforts to ensure their safe return.
He reminisced about previous crises in Syria and Iraq when Prime Minister Narendra Modi successfully facilitated the safe return of Indian nationals.
Bommai reiterated that it is the state government's duty to guarantee the safe repatriation of all Indians, particularly Kannadigas, who are currently facing hardships due to shortages of funds and food.
He highlighted that a substantial number of Kannadigas reside in Dubai, and through them and the Indian Embassy, the state must quickly organize temporary provisions and facilitate their return.
