Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, Feb 28 (NationPress) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah emphasized on Saturday that the safety of Kannadigas living in Middle Eastern nations is a priority for the state government, especially amid the escalating tensions between Israel and Iran.
In his remarks, the Chief Minister indicated that Kannadigas in regions like the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Qatar are under close observation, with appropriate measures being implemented to guarantee their safety.
He mentioned that discussions have been undertaken with the Resident Commissioner in New Delhi, instructing officials to execute all essential actions for the protection of Kannadigas in the affected areas.
Siddaramaiah highlighted that numerous flight operations in various Middle Eastern countries have been halted due to the conflict, leaving many individuals stranded and unable to return to India.
He urged those impacted to relocate to safer areas and strictly adhere to guidelines issued by local authorities and Indian diplomatic missions.
The Chief Minister also announced that a dedicated helpline will be operational from Saturday to offer support to Kannadigas and their families.
He reassured family members not to panic if they cannot reach their relatives immediately, confirming that the government is diligently working to ensure the safety of every Kannadiga in the impacted regions.
In the meantime, former minister B. Nagendra reported to the Chief Minister that 32 individuals from Ballari are currently stranded in Dubai. Siddaramaiah stated that the government is aware of this situation and is taking appropriate measures to ensure their safety and provide assistance.
It is noteworthy that External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar engaged in multiple phone calls with his counterparts from Iran and Israel on Saturday, voicing India’s significant concern regarding the rapidly worsening circumstances in West Asia following a reported joint US–Israel strike on Iran and Tehran’s retaliatory responses.
This diplomatic engagement occurs amidst rising tensions, following reports of explosions in Tehran and other sites, with Iran allegedly launching missiles towards Israel and US military bases across the Gulf.
Israel characterized its strikes as pre-emptive, while the United States labeled the operation “Operation Epic Fury,” targeting Iranian military and leadership locations. This prompted retaliatory missile strikes on US-affiliated installations in various countries.
US President Donald Trump confirmed these operations and urged Iranians to pursue regime change, while Iranian officials vowed a robust response.
The escalation has raised alarms about a broader regional conflict, with international humanitarian organizations, including the International Committee of the Red Cross, warning of a potentially perilous chain reaction.
