Bengaluru, March 2 (NationPress) — Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced on Monday that the state administration is actively observing developments in West Asia amid rising tensions between the US and Israel against Iran. He emphasized that the protection and welfare of Kannadigas residing abroad is the government's utmost concern.
In his remarks, the Chief Minister revealed that approximately 100 Kannadigas are currently stranded in the UAE, particularly in Dubai, along with nine individuals in Bahrain due to flight cancellations and disruptions in airspace. He assured that state teams are in regular contact with local authorities and the stranded individuals to confirm details and provide necessary support.
The State Emergency Operations Centre and all District Emergency Operations Centres have been mobilized to manage this situation effectively. The state is also maintaining ongoing communication with the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and Indian embassies and consulates in the affected areas.
The Chief Secretary has reached out to the Central government, requesting immediate action to ensure the safety, assistance, and potential repatriation of the stranded Kannadigas. Additionally, a separate request has been made for airlines to facilitate support, offer flexibility in ticket rescheduling, and ensure adequate return flight availability as soon as possible.
CM Siddaramaiah urged Kannadigas in the impacted regions to remain calm and adhere strictly to the advisories issued by local authorities and the Indian embassies. He also encouraged them to register with embassies or consulates via helpline numbers. The government is diligently compiling requests to extend comprehensive support.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has disclosed district-specific data regarding those stranded. Out of the 100 individuals in the UAE, the largest groups are from Ballari (32) and Bengaluru (25), followed by Chikkamagaluru (five), Madikeri (four), Vijayapura (four), Davanagere (nine), Shivamogga (three), Raichur (three), Mangaluru (three), Udupi (two), Chitradurga (two), Kalaburagi (two), Chikkaballapura (two), Tumakuru (one), and three individuals whose district information remains unverified.
In Bahrain, four stranded individuals come from Hassan district, three from Udupi, and one each from Madikeri and an unidentified district.
The Chief Minister reaffirmed that his administration is committed to supporting Kannadigas overseas and will take all necessary steps for their safety and return.
