Bengaluru, June 17 (NationPress) Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has confirmed that students from the state currently in conflict-affected Israel and Iran are receiving adequate care from local authorities and will be repatriated shortly.
While addressing the media on Tuesday, CM Siddaramaiah stated, "I spoke to the relevant officials this morning. The airports in those regions are presently closed. It is anticipated that they may reopen within a day or two, allowing for the immediate return of our students to Karnataka."
"All of them are safe and are being well attended to. We will make every effort to expedite their return," further asserted CM Siddaramaiah.
The Karnataka government had reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs on Monday, requesting the safe repatriation of students currently located in Iran.
Officials have indicated they are maintaining constant communication with the appropriate officers and staff, taking necessary actions based on the evolving situation.
The Deputy Chairman of the NRI Forum of Karnataka released an official statement on this matter. H.S. Satish, a Special Officer, noted that the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran have led to concerns among foreign nationals in Iran.
Approximately nine students from Karnataka, enrolled at Shahid Beheshti Medical University near Tehran, are anxious regarding the current circumstances in Iran. One student, Nadeem Hussain, has reached out to the NRI Forum along with his parents to express their worries.
Nadeem has indicated a desire to return to India. In response, Arti Krishna, the Deputy Chairman of the NRI Forum of Karnataka, promptly contacted the Ministry of External Affairs, requesting the swift repatriation of all nine students from Iran, as stated by Satish.
Earlier, on Sunday, Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy held a video call with several Kannadigas stranded in Israel amid the ongoing conflict. He checked on their safety and well-being.
During the call from his official residence, the Minister assured them of the Indian government's unwavering support.
He committed to discussing the situation urgently with the Ministry of External Affairs to facilitate the safe and prompt return of these individuals.
The Kannadigas who participated in the video call reassured the Minister of their safety and acknowledged the assistance being provided by the Indian Embassy. They expressed their gratitude, stating, "We are being well taken care of."
The Minister underscored that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the Government of India is dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of Indian citizens abroad.
