Bengaluru, June 16 (NationPress) The Karnataka government has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs, advocating for the prompt and safe return of students currently stranded in Iran back to the state.
Officials have indicated that they are maintaining regular communication with relevant personnel, taking necessary actions while assessing the prevailing conditions.
The Office of the Deputy Chairman of the NRI Forum of Karnataka released an official notice on Monday. H.S. Satish, the Special Officer associated with the Deputy Chairman, mentioned that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran has raised concerns and fear among expatriates living in Iran.
Approximately nine students from Karnataka, enrolled at Shahid Beheshti Medical University near Tehran, are feeling anxious about the current situation in Iran. One of the students, Nadeem Hussain, along with his parents, reached out to the NRI Forum of Karnataka to express their worries, Satish explained.
The student has conveyed his desire to return to India. In response to this plea, Arti Krishna, the Deputy Chairman of the NRI Forum of Karnataka, promptly sent a letter to the Ministry of External Affairs, urging for the repatriation of all nine students from Iran, Satish noted.
Previously, on Sunday, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, conducted a video call with several Kannadigas currently trapped in Israel due to the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran. He checked on their well-being and safety.
The Union Minister, who returned to New Delhi from Bengaluru on Sunday evening, conversed with the Kannadigas from his official residence. During the dialogue, the Minister inquired about their safety and assured them of the Indian government's unwavering support.
The Minister affirmed that he would immediately discuss the situation with the Ministry of External Affairs to guarantee the safe and swift return of the individuals to their homeland.
All Kannadigas who participated in the video call informed the Minister that they were safe and that the officials at the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv were providing all required assistance. They expressed their gratitude, stating, "We are being well taken care of," and thanked the Embassy for their support.
Moreover, Minister Kumaraswamy praised the commitment of the Indian Embassy staff, acknowledging their dedication during these challenging times.
The Minister underscored that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India is diligently working to ensure the safety and welfare of Indian citizens overseas.
Union Minister Kumaraswamy remarked, "I spoke with several Kannadigas currently stranded in Israel during the ongoing conflict, inquiring about their well-being and safety. I assured them that urgent measures will be taken for their safe and swift return to their homeland and will engage in discussions with the Ministry of External Affairs officials.
“I informed them that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the Government of India is taking all necessary urgent steps for the safety of Indian citizens in conflict-affected foreign countries. The timely assistance provided by the Indian Embassy officials in Israel during these trying times is commendable,” he concluded.
