Bengaluru, Feb 20 (NationPress) The Deputy Chief Minister of Karnataka, D.K. Shivakumar, announced on Thursday that the state government would take essential measures to implement the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) following a thorough examination of a committee's report regarding it.

During a gathering of the State Government Employees Association’s office bearers, he stated, “A committee has been established under Anjum Parvez to explore the implementation of OPS. After reviewing the report, our government will proceed with the necessary actions. Our party assured the implementation of OPS in our manifesto, and we are dedicated to fulfilling that promise. It will be done, but it requires time and patience.”

He emphasized that government employees are the backbone of the administration. “The government employees’ association contributes significantly. Government duties carry immense responsibility, and effective management is crucial. Government employees are akin to priests in temples, needed for the people to connect with the divine. I have also served as a government employee for 38 years,” he remarked.

He also mentioned that the Chief Minister wished to be present but was advised by doctors to rest.

“Our government is committed to supporting all sections of society. The trust bestowed upon us by the populace is invaluable. People’s representatives and government employees are united. Our administration has launched guarantee schemes aimed at benefiting millions. Your requests align with our manifesto. Feel free to rally for my candidacy in the next elections, and I will lead under my guidance. My health is robust, and I plan to remain active in politics for another 8-10 years. Keep your faith in me,” he encouraged the crowd chanting his name.

Earlier, Shivakumar expressed that failing to plan for proper roads, footpaths, and greenery would greatly disadvantage Bengaluru.

While inaugurating a workshop on road construction organized by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), he remarked, "Transforming Bengaluru cannot happen in 2-3 years. Even divine intervention cannot achieve that. Change will only occur through proper planning and effective execution."

"We must concentrate on combating our political adversaries rather than squabbling among ourselves," stated Shivakumar during a press conference at the KPCC office on Thursday. He also announced the outcomes of the Youth Congress elections and provided guidance to the newly appointed officials.

"Winning elections is not our sole focus. Now, let’s put elections aside and collaborate without any factional divisions. Everyone should unite, uphold the Congress party’s ideals, integrate all members, and challenge the BJP and JD-S," he concluded.
