On Friday, an official statement indicated that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah took serious notice of the situation and reached out to Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, urging for swift action.
“The Chief Minister of Uttarakhand assured that an FIR would be filed, ensuring the safety of residents from Jammu and Kashmir,” the statement mentioned.
Following this, the Uttarakhand Police filed an FIR at Vikas Nagar Police Station against the accused, Sanjay Yadav, and another individual under Sections 117(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sanjay Yadav has been apprehended and will face legal consequences.
This incident has sparked considerable political reactions in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress President Tariq Hameed Karra expressed that the attack is “deeply alarming” and accused BJP-ruled states of witnessing such incidents more frequently.
