An official communiqué released on Thursday stated, "Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has expressed grave concern regarding the assault on a young Kashmiri shawl seller in Uttarakhand and has taken immediate measures to ensure accountability and the safety of Jammu and Kashmir residents living outside the Union Territory."

In a message shared on social media platform X, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister's Office noted: "The Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister engaged with the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Pushkar Singh Dhami, concerning the assault on a young Kashmiri shawl seller and insisted on strict measures against the offenders. Dhami assured that rigorous actions, including the filing of an FIR, would be taken and the safety of Jammu and Kashmir residents would be prioritized."
Following this, the Uttarakhand Police promptly acted on the matter.
In an official update, the police reported that an FIR has been lodged at the Vikasnagar Police Station against the accused Sanjay Yadav and another individual under Sections 117(2) and 352 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The update also stated: "The accused Sanjay Yadav has been apprehended, and necessary legal processes are underway, leading to his confinement in jail."
In response to this incident and other similar recent events, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed, in a separate post on X, "This recent spate of attacks, including incidents in Himachal Pradesh and now this one, are intolerable and must cease. It is contradictory to claim that J&K is an inseparable part of India while Kashmiri individuals elsewhere live in fear for their lives. My government will intervene wherever necessary and take all required steps to prevent the recurrence of such incidents."
