New Delhi, Feb 2 (NationPress) Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal has sent a letter to the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of Delhi, expressing his concerns regarding purported attacks on his party members within the New Delhi Assembly constituency.

The AAP has asserted that its workers faced targeting and aggression from individuals identified as "goons" affiliated with BJP candidate Parvesh Verma. Furthermore, it has been reported that a female AAP worker experienced harassment during these incidents.

In his correspondence, Kejriwal requested the deployment of independent election monitors in the New Delhi Assembly region to avert such occurrences. He also urged the Election Commission to guarantee the safety of AAP volunteers.

Additionally, he called for stringent measures against the BJP workers implicated in the assaults.

Kejriwal insisted on the immediate suspension of police officials stationed in the area due to their inability to uphold security.

These allegations were echoed by AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, who reported that AAP workers were assaulted in the Chelmsford Club slum area of New Delhi.

Singh detailed in his complaint that on February 1, around 1:00 PM, individuals donning BJP sashes and caps, allegedly connected to Verma, physically attacked AAP members Gaurav Singh, Suresh Acharya, and Pranali Rawat. He further claimed that Rawat faced harassment during the altercation.

Singh accused the police of inaction, mentioning that officers declined to act against Verma's backers.

"The police present acknowledged that the SHO had directed them not to take any measures against Parvesh Verma's supporters. In light of the circumstances, the SHO should be dismissed immediately," Singh asserted in his letter.

These claims arise just days ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, set for February 5, with vote counting and results announcement scheduled for February 8.
