Kerala: A Gem in India's Startup Landscape, Says Tharoor

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 30 (NationPress) Senior Congress leader and Lok Sabha MP from Thiruvananthapuram, Shashi Tharoor, proclaimed that Kerala's startup ecosystem has transformed into a radiant gem within the realm of India's swiftly evolving startup environment, exhibiting its capabilities in innovation, creativity, sustainability, and inclusiveness.

During his address at the Huddle Global 2024, which is India's premier startup conference, Tharoor, a four-time Lok Sabha MP, emphasized these points on Saturday.

Tharoor, renowned as a writer, former diplomat, and influential thinker, aptly titled his speech "The Elephant that is becoming a tiger: India's Startup Ecosystem and tech entrepreneurship," a clear nod to his publication "The Elephant, the Tiger & the Cellphone".

While celebrating Kerala's startup achievements, Tharoor underscored the necessity for the state to enhance regulatory frameworks and processes to empower aspiring entrepreneurs to establish businesses, attract investment, and accelerate growth.

"There is a need to simplify and streamline regulatory frameworks and processes by dismantling the burdensome red tape," he asserted.

Reflecting on the development of the Indian startup ecosystem, Tharoor indicated that now is the moment to make a singular imaginative leap to propel the gains achieved thus far.

"The elephant is evolving into a tiger, as startups epitomize hard work, innovation, and creativity, playing a crucial role in the extraordinary transformation of the nation," Tharoor remarked.

He also noted that while generating innovative and creative solutions, startups have demonstrated that everything is reusable and re-imaginable.

"The rise of an entrepreneurial culture has shifted India from a nation of job-seekers to a job-creating economy, despite the paradox of rising unemployment which has intensified the youth's entrepreneurial drive," he added.

Praising the Kerala Startup Mission for evolving its flagship startup festival into a significant event that unites a diverse array of stakeholders, Tharoor expressed admiration for the variety of products ranging from robots to home automation and medical technology showcased by startups.
