Kerala Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president and MLA Rajeev Chandrasekhar on Thursday announced that the party will organise simultaneous singing of the full version of Vande Mataram at 15,000 centres across the state on Independence Day, framing the exercise as a statewide declaration of nationalism and patriotism. The announcement was made in Thiruvananthapuram and forms part of a broader nationwide BJP campaign being rolled out at lakhs of locations across India.

Scale and Structure of the Programme

The events will span every tier of the party's organisational network — from booth-level units to panchayat, constituency, and district centres. At each location, BJP workers will hoist the national flag and lead the singing of the complete national song. Chandrasekhar said the party's cadre would coordinate all events, ensuring uniform participation across the state on 15 August.

Chandrasekhar framed the initiative as a counter to what he described as 'attempts to insult Vande Mataram and lend political support to forces hostile to the country.' He added that the BJP would remain 'at the forefront of the struggle to protect India's unity, integrity and sovereignty and to build a developed India.' The state BJP chief also underlined that Vande Mataram carried an 'inseparable connection' with India's freedom struggle, calling its preservation 'the responsibility of every Indian.'

The BJP leader used the occasion to sharpen attacks on rivals, accusing the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI-M) and the Indian National Congress (Congress) of extending support to forces that, according to him, seek to weaken the country. He expressed confidence that the people of Kerala would take note of such positions. The BJP has been working to expand its political footprint in Kerala, a state traditionally dominated by the Left and Congress-led alliances, and the Independence Day programme is widely seen as part of that effort.

The Kerala drive is one component of a nationwide BJP campaign, with similar programmes reportedly planned at lakhs of centres across other states.
