Kozhikode, April 12 (NationPress) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan publicly expressed his dissatisfaction on Saturday during the inauguration of the second phase of the district hospital in Badagara, noticing the numerous empty chairs before him.

Notably, Badagara town is regarded as a stronghold for the CPI-M.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Union Minister of State for Fisheries George Kurian, State Health Minister Veena George, along with his son-in-law, State Tourism Minister P.A. Mohammed Riyas, and various other local leaders. However, unlike previous gatherings, this occasion was marked by an abundance of vacant chairs.

Discontent was evident even as the Kerala CM prepared to leave the state-run Guest House in Badagara for the 11 a.m. function. Despite his reputation for punctuality, he arrived 35 minutes late after receiving word of the low attendance.

Upon arriving, he was greeted by a sea of empty seats, prompting him to express his disappointment subtly, signaling his dissatisfaction with the local CPI-M workers and leaders, who usually ensure full attendance at his public meetings.

"Yes, today is a hot day, and the organizers have opted for a spacious venue with chairs placed far apart," remarked Vijayan.

He also voiced his frustration at the absence of the local MP and MLA, both affiliated with the Opposition Congress-led UDF, stating, "For the sake of decorum, I prefer not to elaborate on this matter."

The underlying cause for the disappointing turnout was revealed to be the dissatisfaction among local CPI-M party workers in and around Badagara regarding the state leadership. This unrest stemmed from the sidelining of a prominent local leader, Divakaran, from the Kozhikode district CPI-M committee following a recent reshuffle.

Following this upheaval, the state leadership promised that Divakaran would be reinstated after the conclusion of the CPI-M state conference. However, as no action was taken, local party members decided to boycott Vijayan's meeting.

In light of this defiance, the state leadership, known for its intolerance of indiscipline, may take action against several individuals in the Badagara and Kozhikode units of the CPI-M.

What has particularly upset both Vijayan and the state CPI-M leadership is that this indiscipline coincides with ongoing challenges faced by the Chief Minister, who is currently under scrutiny from national agencies concerning his daughter Veena Vijayan and her now-defunct IT company, which is facing legal issues in a local court in Kochi.
