CPI's P. Sandosh Kumar Urges Rahul Gandhi to Address Cash-for-Ticket Allegations
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
In New Delhi, April 3 (NationPress) P. Sandosh Kumar, a Rajya Sabha member of the Communist Party of India (CPI) from Kerala, has formally reached out to Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, urging him to take decisive action against prominent Congress leaders implicated in a cash-for-ticket scandal.
Kumar's correspondence highlights the serious nature of the allegations surrounding a cash-for-ticket scheme involving senior members of the Congress party.
According to Kumar, these allegations were made by a former General Secretary of the Haryana Pradesh Mahila Congress. The individuals implicated include Congress General Secretary (Organisation) K.C. Venugopal, K. Suresh, the Chief Whip of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Sahab Ahmad Khan, Personal Assistant to Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Anas Ali, K.C. Venugopal's PA. They are accused of soliciting substantial amounts of money with promises of Assembly tickets.
Kumar states he felt compelled to write this letter in response to what he describes as Rahul Gandhi's misleading and unfounded campaign against the LDF in Keralam.
"You have made unfounded, distasteful, and unsupported allegations against the LDF leadership and Left parties in general. The Left is celebrated nationwide for its integrity, and it's more fitting for the Congress to reflect on its issues than to cast accusations at others," Kumar remarked.
He further mentioned that those named in the FIR are not insignificant figures but are well-known individuals closely associated with the Congress leadership and seen as having personal ties to Rahul Gandhi.
“Allegations of cash for tickets have also surfaced among Congress members in states like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Assam, suggesting that this is not an isolated case but indicative of a broader systemic issue,” Kumar emphasized.
Moreover, there are significant concerns regarding the collection and usage of funds by the Congress following the devastating Chooralmala Mundakkai landslides in Wayanad district, Kerala. Reports indicate that considerable sums were collected under the guise of relief and rehabilitation, yet there is a troubling lack of transparency concerning the total funds raised, where they were deposited, and how they were utilized for the benefit of those affected.
“Given your direct connection to Wayanad as its former MP and the current representation by Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, it is essential for you to release complete and verifiable information to eliminate these concerns. You must either take firm action against those named in the FIR and ensure transparency regarding the funds collected for landslide victims or retract your claims of opposing corruption,” Kumar stated.
Notably, Rahul Gandhi has been vocal in his criticism of the LDF government for alleged corruption as state elections loom on April 9, with pre-election surveys indicating a shift towards the Congress-led UDF government regaining power.
