BJP Exposes Alleged ‘Money for Tickets’ Scandal in Congress Ahead of Haryana Elections
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 3 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday made alarming accusations against the Congress leadership, asserting that a significant "money for tickets" scandal has emerged within the opposition party in relation to the Haryana Assembly elections of 2024.
BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya claimed that approximately Rs 7 crore was gathered concerning one specific constituency, referencing statements made by a Congress official.
In a pointed post on X, Malviya characterized this revelation as a "MAJOR allegation" originating from the Congress's own members.
He particularly underscored the Bawal assembly seat in Haryana, claiming that the money collection process was linked to "10 Janpath"—the residence of prominent Congress leader and Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi—and the party's senior leadership.
“These claims are not from rival political factions but arise from within the party itself. The Congress needs to clarify if financial considerations swayed ticket allocations,” Malviya remarked in his post.
He contended that these allegations reveal a "profound organizational decay" and prompt serious inquiries into the party's internal transparency.
Furthermore, the BJP leader directed criticisms toward Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who has been presented as the party's face for renewal.
Malviya asserted that if grassroots members are voicing concerns about financial misconduct and the inaccessibility of leadership, the party's credibility is effectively in jeopardy.
“There's a reason Congress continues to lose states, including Haryana. When politics turns transactional, credibility erodes,” he stated.
Malviya insisted that the country deserves clarity about the impact of "financial dealings" on candidate selections.
These allegations arose nearly a year and a half after the Haryana Assembly elections in October 2024, where the Bharatiya Janata Party won its third consecutive term by securing 48 out of 90 seats, achieving a clear majority, contrary to various exit polls that had favored Congress, which ended up with 37 seats.
As of now, the Congress has not provided an official response to these allegations.
In contrast, the BJP continues to assert that the "transactional nature" of Congress politics is the primary reason for its electoral defeats in the state.
