Kerala Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan and Victim's Wife Demand Justice Over Parole Granted to Murder Accused

Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 30 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, V.D. Satheesan, has voiced his strong criticism against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, who also holds the Home Minister position, for permitting Kodi Suni -- the key suspect in the murder case of TP Chandrasekharan -- to receive parole, declaring it a breach of protocol.

“This illegal action has transpired due to the interference of Vijayan and his office. The authorities initially opposed the granting of a 30-day parole to the accused, but it was only through the highest level of intervention in the CPI-M that he was allowed to leave prison,” stated the Congress leader.

Suni was released from prison on parole this past Saturday.

“The ruling CPI-M is engaging in a perilous game by disregarding all regulations to assist criminals. We witnessed the outcomes in the twin murder case at Periya, where all the accused were CPI-M members, as well as the protection afforded to those accountable for the suicide of Kannur's additional district magistrate, Naveen Babu,” added Satheesan.

TP Chandrasekharan, aged 51, who founded the Revolutionary Marxist Party (RMP), was brutally murdered on May 4, 2012, while riding his motorcycle back to his hometown near Kozhikode.

In this case, a court has issued life sentences to 11 individuals, including three mid-level CPI(M) leaders.

Chandrasekharan was a well-known CPI(M) figure in the Kozhikode District but departed from the party in 2008 to establish his own organization, RMP.

In the 2021 Assembly elections, his wife, K.K. Rema, backed by the Congress-led UDF, achieved a remarkable victory in the Vadakara Assembly constituency, despite CPI(M)'s attempts to undermine her.

Rema expressed her astonishment at how an accused could be granted a 30-day parole. “He received a 30-day parole on the grounds that his mother is unwell, but how can such an extensive release be justified? His mother has the right to seek assistance from the State Human Rights Commission, but what rationale supports a 30-day parole when 10 days would suffice? What implications arise from allowing a criminal such extended freedom? We demand an explanation from the prison authorities regarding this occurrence,” Rema stated.
