Kerala Unveils the Nation's First Pediatric Robotic Gait Trainer

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 3 (NationPress) Genrobotics, a prominent robotics firm, has officially launched India's first robotic-assisted pediatric gait trainer in Thiruvananthapuram, designed to aid in the physical rehabilitation of children who encounter mobility challenges due to conditions like cerebral palsy.
Statistics reveal that approximately 18 million children are affected by mobility impairments, primarily attributed to cerebral palsy.
The G-Gaiter Pediatric aims to address this pressing issue by providing hospitals, neurorehabilitation centers, and early intervention facilities with advanced robotic technology to enhance the quality of life for every child with gait disabilities.
The launch event was graced by Kerala's Minister of Health, Woman and Child Development, Veena George, who presented the very first unit of the G-Gaiter Pediatric.
During her speech, Minister George emphasized that the introduction of the G-Gaiter Pediatric represents a pivotal advancement in the rehabilitation of children suffering from gait challenges due to conditions including cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, brain injuries, and spinal cord injuries.
"I am confident that the G-Gaiter Pediatric will bring joy to the lives of children facing mobility issues and their families, creating a more beautiful world," she remarked.
She went on to highlight that Kerala's healthcare system has traditionally relied on robust community interventions and public health initiatives, but with recent achievements in healthcare, technology is now being integrated to enhance life quality—initiatives like the G-Gaiter are crucial in this evolution.
Additionally, Minister George announced that the G-Gaiter Pediatric will be housed in the state-run Sree Avittam Thirunal (SAT) Hospital.
Vimal Govind, CEO of Genrobotics, stated, "Our journey commenced with the G-Gaiter. Observing its transformative effects, we are now extending our innovations to cater to children's needs with the G-Gaiter Pediatric. Our goal is to revolutionize physical medicine and rehabilitation through technology, ensuring that individuals of all ages facing gait challenges can access cutting-edge rehabilitation solutions."
The G-Gaiter Pediatric incorporates Advanced Virtual Reality (VR) technology and real-time interactive games, ensuring an engaging and stimulating therapy experience for young patients.
This innovative robot is equipped with Genrobotics' patented GPLOT Exoskeleton Technology, which facilitates the development of natural gait patterns through precise robotic gait therapy.
Furthermore, it functions in Intelligent Therapy Mode, aiding children in relearning motor patterns, enhancing muscle coordination, and improving functional mobility to create efficient gait patterns tailored to their individual needs.
The design of the device is pediatric-friendly, ensuring comfort and accessibility for young users, thereby enhancing the overall user experience.
Genrobotics has been recognized as one of the top three GPAI startups in India by the Ministry of Environment and IT in 2023 and continues to develop innovative 'Make in India' robotic solutions for individuals with gait disabilities.
