Ernakulam, Feb 5 (NationPress) A 56-year-old woman courageously saved her husband who fell into a well at their residence while harvesting peppercorns in Kerala on Wednesday.
The husband, identified as 64-year-old Ramesan, was engaged in picking black peppercorns from the vines.
As he was plucking, the ladder slipped, and due to the proximity of the tree to the well, Ramesan fell in.
Brave Padma, who was indoors, heard the commotion and rushed outside, horrified to find her husband in a 40-foot well.
She raised an alarm and cautiously entered the well using a rope.
Upon reaching the bottom, which contained about five feet of water, she managed to lift Ramesan and hold him tightly.
By that time, locals had gathered, and in roughly 20 minutes, the Fire Force Rescue team arrived.
Praful, the local Fire Force officer, called out to Padma to check on them.
“She informed us that there was no need for anyone to come down, but requested a net instead. We lowered a net, and she first assisted Ramesan into it, after which we pulled him up. She then followed, her hands severely bruised from the descent down the 40-foot well on the rope. He has been taken to the hospital and is recovering. Padma's brave act deserves immense recognition,”
stated Praful, who was involved in the rescue operation.
Praful added that they arrived at the scene in about 40 minutes, and the couple had to wait in the well for approximately 20 minutes.
