Kasaragod, Sep 8 (NationPress) A newlywed woman reportedly took her own life by hanging inside her husband's residence in northern Kerala's Kasaragod, leading to an ongoing police investigation, authorities revealed on Monday.
The victim has been identified as K. Nandana (21), the spouse of Ranjesh, a local from Aramanganam near Melparamba, who purportedly died by suicide just over four months post-marriage.
According to police, the tragic event became known on Sunday afternoon when Nandana sent a text to her mother, Seena, indicating her intention to end her life.
Concerned by the alarming message, her mother immediately alerted Nandana's in-laws. When Ranjesh's family rushed to her room, they found the door locked from the inside. They managed to force it open only to discover her hanging from the ceiling fan.
As of now, no arrests have been made, and the investigation continues, as stated by police officials.
The reason behind her drastic action remains unclear.
Nandana was the only daughter of K. Ravi and Seena from Periya Ayampara and had been in a long-standing relationship with Ranjesh before their families consented to the marriage.
The couple was wed on April 26 of this year, surrounded by relatives and friends.
The Melparamba police have registered a case of unnatural death, with an inquest conducted under the oversight of RDO Binu Joseph and Sub-Inspector K.N. Suresh Kumar.
Her body has been transferred to Kasaragod General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
This incident marks yet another case in a concerning trend of unnatural deaths among young women in Kerala after marriage, often amidst allegations of domestic abuse and dowry harassment.
In July this year, a 23-year-old pregnant woman named Faseela was discovered dead in her husband’s home in Thrissur after sending her mother WhatsApp messages claiming physical and mental abuse from her husband and mother-in-law.
Similarly, the untimely deaths of 29-year-old Athulya Satheesh and 32-year-old Vipanchika Maniyan in the UAE, both hailing from Kollam, were also associated with alleged domestic violence and dowry-related issues.
In December of last year, another newlywed woman, Induja (25), was found dead at her husband’s residence in Palode near Thiruvananthapuram.
Her husband, Abhijith, was arrested after her family lodged a complaint citing allegations of physical and dowry harassment against him and his family.
