Thiruvananthapuram, April 22 (NationPress) Women from Kerala have surpassed their male counterparts in the results of the Union Public Service Commission's (UPSC) Civil Services Examination released on Tuesday.

Among the top 100 ranks, there were five women and only one man.

The highest achiever from Kerala is Alfred Thomas, who secured the 33rd position, while the other five women in the top 100 are Malavika G. Nair at 45th rank, G.P. Nandana at 47th, Sonnet Jose at 54th, Reenu Anna Mathew at 81st, and Devika Priyadarshini at 95th.

Nair expressed her gratitude stating that this achievement was a gift from God, considering this was her final opportunity.

"I have always aspired to join government service and currently serve as a Deputy Commissioner in the IRS. The encouragement from my seniors played a crucial role in my success," she shared.

Nandana revealed that she had previously failed to clear the prelims in her first attempt, but succeeded this time. "I wasn’t very confident, but my teachers believed in me. IAS is my primary goal, and I am optimistic about achieving it," she mentioned.

Mathew, who attempted the exam four times, expressed her long-awaited joy. "My parents were initially shocked when I broke the news, but now we are all thrilled and celebrating," Mathew noted, sharing that her first preference is the Indian Foreign Service and she is eagerly awaiting the outcome.

A total of 1,009 candidates have been recommended for various services based on their examination performance, adhering to the existing vacancy rules.

According to the UPSC, of the successful candidates, there are 335 from the General category, 109 from EWS, 318 from OBC, 160 from SC, and 87 from ST.

The Civil Services (Preliminary) Examination was conducted on June 16, 2024, with 5,83,213 out of 9,92,599 applicants participating.

Out of these, 14,627 candidates qualified for the Main (Written) Examination held in September 2024.

Ultimately, 2,845 candidates were selected for the Personality Test.

The top rank was secured by Shakti Dubey, who achieved the first position with Political Science & International Relations as her optional subject.

Harshita Goyal followed closely in second rank, also with Political Science & International Relations as her optional. Dongre Archit Parag secured the third position, holding a B.Tech in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from VIT, Vellore, and chose Philosophy as his optional subject.
