Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Thiruvananthapuram, March 8 (NationPress) In celebration of International Women’s Day, Natyaveda, a prominent dance and music academy in Kerala, is set to showcase a remarkable arangettam featuring 13 senior women from various professions. This event will take place at 5 p.m. at the state government cultural venue, Vyloppilli Samskrithi Bhavan in Thiruvananthapuram. The performance will be a debut for these participants, aged between 40 and 50, emphasizing that the journey of art and education can commence at any stage in life.
As noted by Guru Kalamandalam Sony Teacher, the creative force behind Natyaveda, these performers hail from a range of backgrounds, including both professionals and homemakers, all of whom have undergone classical dance training before finally taking the stage.
“For many of these women, the opportunity to perform has been a long-held aspiration. This arangettam serves as a tribute to their commitment and the essence of International Women’s Day,” she remarked.
Natyaveda was established in 2000 in Thiruvananthapuram and has evolved into a dynamic cultural institution over the past two decades, dedicated to the promotion and preservation of Indian performing arts traditions. What started as a small ensemble of artists and enthusiasts has transformed into a well-respected platform connecting performers, scholars, amateurs, and aficionados of classical arts.
Registered under the Charitable Societies Act and affiliated with the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Akademi, Natyaveda regularly organizes workshops, lecture demonstrations, seminars, and cultural festivals that aim to foster appreciation for Indian art and culture.
A significant achievement in the institution’s timeline has been the establishment of the Natyaveda College of Performing Arts, affiliated with Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwavidyalaya (IKSVV), Khairagarh University in Chhattisgarh—India's first university exclusively focused on performing arts.
This college provides undergraduate degree programs in Bharatanatyam, Carnatic vocal, and Hindustani vocal music, as well as diploma courses in Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Carnatic and Hindustani music, Sitar, Tabla, and Yoga. It stands out as the only IKSVV-affiliated performing arts college in South India.
Students from this institution have gained national recognition in university examinations and have showcased their talents at prestigious events, including the Khairagarh Festival.
The late Padma Vibhushan Kavalam Narayana Panicker served as the patron and mentor of Natyaveda, significantly influencing many of its artistic endeavors.
Driven by the vision of “Arts for a Better World,” the organization continues to cultivate artistic talent and strengthen the appreciation for India’s classical cultural heritage.
