Thiruvananthapuram, Dec 22 (NationPress) Following the conclusion of the house-to-house enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll on December 18, election officials in Kerala are gearing up to initiate a targeted campaign to enrol new voters after the draft electoral rolls are published this Tuesday.
The Chief Electoral Officer (Kerala), Rathan U. Kelkar, stated that this special enrolment initiative will mainly focus on individuals who have reached the age of 18, along with eligible voters who have not yet been added to the rolls.
The goal of this campaign is to ensure maximum voter inclusion ahead of the subsequent phases of the electoral process.
As per Kelkar, election officials have already received 2.92 lakh applications through Form 6, which is designated for new voter enrolments.
Additionally, 15,157 applications have been filed under Form 6A for voters residing overseas. These applications are set for verification and processing following the publication of the draft rolls on Tuesday.
During the enumeration phase, digitization of the enumeration forms reached an impressive 100 percent completion by 10 a.m. on December 18, marking a significant operational achievement in the revision process.
However, a considerable number of entries have been marked as uncollectible under the categories of Absent, Shifted, and Dead (ASD).
The total count of uncollectable forms stands at 24.81 lakh, which constitutes approximately 8.91 percent of the current electorate.
This figure includes 6.49 lakh deceased voters, 6.89 lakh untraceable voters, 8.21 lakh shifted voters, 1.34 lakh duplicate entries, and 1.86 lakh categorized under other reasons, as detailed by Kelkar.
In response to requests from political parties, the ASD list has already been made available on the CEO's website.
An updated version of this list, featuring corrections and names of voters who have been located, will be released alongside the draft SIR rolls on December 23.
This list has also been provided to booth-level agents from political parties to aid in the search for missing voters.
Claims and objections regarding the draft electoral rolls can be submitted from Tuesday until January 22, 2026, with the notice and hearing process continuing until February 14.
The final electoral rolls are expected to be published on February 21.
Kelkar emphasized that, according to electoral regulations, additions and deletions can proceed until the final date for filing nominations for the upcoming 2026 Assembly elections.
He also outlined the appeals process available for voters whose names are not included, which allows for appeals to be made to the District Election Officer and subsequently to the Chief Electoral Officer.
