Key Suspect in the Murder of Journalist Mukesh Chandrakar Captured in Hyderabad

Hyderabad, Jan 6 (NationPress) The key suspect in the murder case of journalist Mukesh Chandrakar has been captured in Hyderabad, as reported by police authorities.

Suresh Chandrakar, a contractor and the alleged mastermind behind the heinous act, had been evading capture since the crime was uncovered.

Authorities disclosed that Suresh was hiding at the residence of his driver in Hyderabad.

Investigators meticulously examined footage from over 200 CCTV cameras and scrutinized nearly 300 mobile numbers to track him down. Subsequently, he was apprehended on Sunday night.

The police confirmed that the interrogation of the suspect is presently in progress.

Mukesh Chandrakar's remains were found last week in a septic tank situated in a shed owned by a contractor in Chhattisgarh's Bastar division.

The 32-year-old independent journalist was last seen departing from his residence in Bijapur's Pujari Para on New Year's Day.

His sibling, Yukesh, filed a missing person report the following day after Mukesh did not return home.

During their investigation, police discovered Chandrakar's body in Chhatan Para Basti, not far from his residence. Three additional individuals, including two relatives of the victim, have been detained in connection with the case.

Ritesh Chandrakar, a cousin of the journalist, was arrested at Raipur airport on Saturday. Mahendra Ramteke, a supervisor, and Dinesh Chandrakar, another relative, were taken into custody in Bijapur.

Earlier on Sunday, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai condemned the murder, labeling it “a very condemnable crime” and assuring strict action against those accountable.

“The state government is implementing all possible measures to investigate this dreadful act. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been established, and we will leave no stone unturned in this matter,” he stated.

The Chief Minister also addressed accusations linking the prime suspect, Suresh Chandrakar, to state Congress President Deepak Baij.

“The contractor implicated is a Congress worker. We've noticed a trend where Congress members are involved in similar incidents. In cases like those in Baloda Bazar and Surajpur, Congress connections have surfaced,” he remarked.

This high-profile case has garnered widespread attention, raising alarms about the safety of journalists and the political connections of the accused. The SIT continues its investigation to ensure justice for Mukesh Chandrakar.
