Suresh Chandrakar, Main Suspect in the Murder of Chhattisgarh Journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, Captured in Hyderabad (Ld)

Hyderabad, Jan 6 (NationPress) Suresh Chandrakar, identified as the primary suspect in the murder of Chhattisgarh journalist Mukesh Chandrakar, has been apprehended in Hyderabad.

Suresh Chandrakar, a contractor, had been evading authorities since the remains of the missing journalist were discovered on January 3, concealed within a septic tank on a property belonging to Suresh Chandrakar in Chattanpara Basti, Bijapur.

Regarded as the alleged mastermind behind the murder of the 33-year-old journalist, Suresh was reportedly seeking refuge at his driver’s home in Hyderabad.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is actively investigating the case, executed a late-night operation on Sunday to detain him, after which he was transported to Raipur.

Suresh Chandrakar's spouse was also apprehended in Kanker district, Chhattisgarh, and is currently being interrogated.

In addition, three other individuals, including two relatives of Chandrakar, have also been arrested in connection with the case. His cousin, Ritesh Chandrakar, was taken into custody at Raipur airport on Saturday, while Mahendra Ramteke, a supervisor, and Dinesh Chandrakar, another relative of the victim, were arrested in Bijapur.

Mukesh Chandrakar, an independent journalist known for exposing alleged corruption in road construction, had been missing since January 1.

He was last seen departing from his residence in Pujari Para, Bijapur, on New Year’s Day. When he failed to return, his brother, Yukesh, lodged a missing person report the following day.

Mukesh Chandrakar also operated a YouTube channel named 'Bastar Junction', boasting 159,000 subscribers.

Initial police investigations indicated that Ritesh Chandrakar was a relative of Mukesh Chandrakar, and the two frequently communicated. On January 1, they spoke on the phone before both went to Suresh Chandrakar's residence for dinner. An altercation ensued after Ritesh accused Mukesh of obstructing their construction activities. According to law enforcement, Ritesh and Ramteke fatally attacked Mukesh with an iron rod, disposed of his body in the septic tank, and sealed it.
