Is Desperation Fueling the Khalistan Movement? ISI Accelerates BKI's Plans for a Major Strike in India
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, Jan 24 (NationPress) A wave of desperation appears to be enveloping the Khalistan factions, potentially paving the way for a significant attack within India. After suffering setbacks in Punjab, many of these individuals sought refuge in Pakistan, Canada, the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Multiple attempts have been made to rekindle the Khalistan movement in Punjab, but these efforts have largely been unproductive. However, recent intelligence reports indicate that the ISI is intensifying its efforts, urging Khalistan terror groups to execute a major strike to convey a powerful message.
An official from the Intelligence Bureau noted that these elements, based in Pakistan, have made several unsuccessful attempts to infiltrate India through Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. As a result, we are reassessing the security of the India-Bangladesh border, the official disclosed.
In a recent strategic meeting, the ISI resolved that all Khalistan terror factions would unify under the leadership of the Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). Since then, the BKI has been rigorously training and has established several modules in Punjab.
Another official revealed that the ISI is attempting to relocate BKI operatives to Bangladesh before sending them into India. Intelligence agencies indicate that the primary targets for attack would be Delhi and Punjab, with directives to focus on government facilities while avoiding civilian casualties, as harming innocents could hinder future recruitment efforts.
Leading up to this major plan, officials have identified that the BKI and its affiliates are engaged in a substantial disinformation campaign. The Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), which spearheads this campaign for the BKI, has been relentlessly posting false information about the Modi government across social media and encrypted platforms, emphasizing the struggles faced by Sikhs in Punjab.
Moreover, the SFJ is disseminating misleading details about the conditions of women in Punjab and is attempting to incite agitation within the farming community regarding the central government's policies. This strategy mirrors their earlier efforts during the farmers' protests, where some Khalistani elements unsuccessfully tried to infiltrate.
As a precaution, security measures have been heightened in Delhi, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. Agencies have received intelligence that the BKI plans to execute a strike ahead of Republic Day.
In Punjab, police are on high alert due to the likelihood of an attempted strike by the BKI. Recently, the Punjab police dismantled a BKI module and apprehended six individuals who were plotting a significant attack on January 26. Authorities recovered a substantial cache of arms and ammunition, and investigations revealed that they intended to utilize RDX, indicating the scale of their planning, according to a police official. This module has been linked to the ISI.
Another official noted that a contributing factor to the desperation is the growing unrest among the cadres of these Khalistan terror groups, who are questioning why no strikes have occurred and why the campaign remains predominantly online. With increasing restlessness among the recruits, BKI leadership is reportedly planning a substantial attack on Indian territory, according to officials.
The BKI, a designated terrorist organization, relocated all its operatives to Pakistan following crackdowns in Punjab. Since then, they have been training alongside Jaish-e-Mohammed under the auspices of the ISI. Intelligence assessments suggest that the BKI comprises at least 200 highly trained cadres, with plans underway to dispatch at least 20 of them to India in the initial phase, prompting heightened security alerts at the borders with Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir, and Bangladesh.
