New Delhi, Jan 10 (NationPress) The Vice Chairperson of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Kuljeet Singh Chahal, inaugurated the foundation for a project costing Rs 1.21 crore aimed at enhancing the Middle Lane of the prestigious Khan Market in the city.
During his speech, Chahal highlighted that the NDMC has recently unveiled its Budget 2026-27, which encompasses various developmental projects in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for a modern and prosperous India.
He noted that the redevelopment and enhancement of key markets is a primary focus within the NDMC Budget, with a special emphasis on Khan Market, recognized as one of the most iconic commercial centers in the national capital.
Chahal expressed that under the vision of a Developed India, Delhi, and NDMC, a revitalization of Khan Market is underway, bringing forth a renewed vigor in the new year.
He mentioned that long-standing requests concerning the Middle Lane/Back Lane are being resolved through a detailed project, which includes granite flooring and the establishment of integrated service ducts for civil and electrical services.
The project, titled “Upgradation and Improvement of Environs of Khan Market (Phase-II)”, will see the Middle Lane enhanced with a comprehensive drainage system, new pavement, and modern flooring.
With a timeline of three months for completion, the project is set to conclude by April 2026.
Chahal commended the efforts of the NDMC’s engineering team and extended gratitude to the Khan Market Traders’ Association for their active support in the development initiative.
Additionally, he mentioned that the NDMC has already improved public toilet facilities and is advancing plans to enhance parking amenities, including a new parking block proposed in the Budget, alongside better traffic management and the establishment of a traffic-free zone.
Stressing that Khan Market is an internationally recognized destination often visited by foreign tourists, he reaffirmed the NDMC’s commitment to elevating its status while maintaining its unique character.
He concluded by stating that through collaborative efforts among the NDMC, traders, residents, and market associations, Khan Market is making significant strides towards achieving new standards in cleanliness, infrastructure, and urban development.
Chahal expressed his satisfaction, stating that the Middle Lane improvement project will greatly enhance the convenience for visitors, traders, and residents, providing the market with a refreshed and modern look.
