New Delhi, March 9 (NationPress) In an effort to modernize urban spaces and improve public convenience, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Vice Chairperson Kuljeet Singh Chahal announced on Sunday the implementation of uniform aesthetics for shopfronts in Khan Market, alongside the renovation of public restrooms at this upscale commercial hub.
During his inspection of the market, Chahal pointed out that Khan Market, known as the 22nd most expensive high street in the world, serves not only as a top shopping locale but also as a representation of a luxurious lifestyle in the capital.
Following the visit, he mandated that all shop display boards adhere to a consistent size and design to elevate the market's overall visual appeal.
He also mentioned that the parking area in Khan Market would be developed using eco-friendly grass pavers, which will enhance drainage and incorporate more greenery into the environment.
Chahal noted that NDMC began night cleaning operations at Khan Market in November 2024, with sweeping activities scheduled from 1 a.m. to 4 a.m. He stated, “This initiative signifies a major advancement towards ensuring a cleaner and safer environment.”
He reiterated that these projects are part of NDMC’s larger vision to maintain Khan Market’s historical charm while transforming it into a modern, well-kept, and pedestrian-friendly destination.
Chahal assured that regular inspections and strong coordination with stakeholders will guarantee the prompt and effective implementation of these initiatives.
He emphasized that NDMC is fully committed to realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for a Swachh and Viksit Bharat, which encompasses enhancing the quality of life for residents, improving the shopping experience for visitors, and creating world-class, sustainable urban areas.
Regarding the infrastructure upgrade in Khan Market’s Middle Lane, Chahal mentioned that precast RCC ducts are being installed to support essential services like electric cables, water pipelines, and gas lines, ensuring efficient maintenance with minimal disruptions.
The flooring is set to be upgraded to high-quality chiselled granite blocks, boosting both durability and aesthetics.
