Delhi: NDMC Pursues PPP Framework for Toilet Maintenance

New Delhi, Dec 13 (NationPress) Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and in line with the Swachh Bharat Mission introduced by the Central government in 2014, the NDMC has sanctioned various important proposals aimed at employee welfare, public service, and infrastructure development during its meeting.

Kuljeet Singh Chahal, the Vice Chairman of NDMC, stated during the Council Meeting held at the Council Room in Palika Kendra that approval was granted for the operation, repair, and maintenance of public toilet units (PTUs), community toilet units (CTUs), and Roll Call Centers in the NDMC jurisdiction using a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model in exchange for advertising rights.

He emphasized that these agreements will ensure the operation, upkeep, and sanitation of the facilities, guaranteeing adherence to the highest standards of hygiene and functionality.

Currently under NDMC management, these facilities are crucial to the city's cleanliness framework, ensuring that public toilets are available every 500 meters throughout its area.

Chahal highlighted that NDMC aims to beautify every public space in New Delhi while striving for a 7-star rating in the forthcoming Swachh Survekshan.

He reassured that the NDMC team is wholeheartedly committed to realizing the Prime Minister's vision of a neat, clean, and green Delhi.

Chahal also pointed out that NDMC intends to renovate all existing PTUs and CTUs with modern designs that incorporate eco-friendly features and effective waste management systems.

The objective is to establish these facilities at international standards, prioritizing key locations such as Khan Market and Sarojini Nagar Market for upgraded PTUs.

Chahal also provided updates on the development of Smart Public Toilets for Women. NDMC has installed six “pink toilets” for women at strategic locations, including Sansad Marg, Super Bazar, Factory Road near Safdarjung Hospital, Sarojini Nagar Market, Aurobindo Marg, and Inner Circle, Connaught Place.

A new pink toilet at Kalawati Hospital is currently under construction and is expected to be completed in FY 2024-25, he mentioned.
