New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) was honored with the 'Super Swachh League City Award' by President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday, highlighting the civic body’s excellence in sanitation and waste management services.
The recognition was awarded to NDMC during the Swachh Survekshan 2024-25 event and was jointly accepted by Minister of Urban Development Ashish Sood, NDMC Chairman Keshav Chandra, and Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal.
In a statement to IANS, Chahal remarked, “This award represents not just a moment of achievement but a reflection of the ongoing teamwork among all stakeholders.”
He further stated, “With the guidance of our esteemed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the movement for cleanliness has become a nationwide initiative. For the first time since independence, cleanliness was emphasized from the Red Fort, inspiring citizens to take it seriously. Today, it is a mass movement across India.”
“The goals of Viksit Bharat and Viksit Delhi are interconnected, and the NDMC aims to excel in the Super Swachh League City category next year,” he added.
The award ceremony also saw the presence of Manohar Lal, the Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs.
An official from NDMC noted that the civic agency's area has been designated as a Super Swachh League City, acknowledging its leadership and innovation in providing world-class sanitation, waste management, and environmental initiatives for cities with populations ranging from 50,000 to 300,000.
This achievement is attributed to the visionary leadership of NDMC’s Chairman, Vice Chairman, Council Members, and the relentless efforts of Swachhta Sevaks, sanitation, horticulture teams, engineers, PMU experts, planners, and active citizen participation.
Chairman Keshav Chandra stated, “This award affirms NDMC’s ongoing commitment to establishing benchmarks in cleanliness, service quality, and civic excellence. I commend our employees, particularly our Safai Sevaks, whose unwavering dedication has led to this national accolade. Let’s keep striving for a cleaner, greener, and healthier New Delhi.”
