New Delhi, Jan 17 (NationPress) Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar on Friday inaugurated a new category - Super Swachh League - which comprises a distinct league of 12 cities that have demonstrated outstanding cleanliness as part of the 2024 Swachh Survekshan (SS).

He also unveiled the toolkit for the 9th edition of Swachh Survekshan, recognized as the world's largest urban cleanliness assessment, now presented in a more streamlined, efficient, and comprehensive format.

During the launch event for the new toolkit, Khattar remarked, “In order to celebrate the remarkable achievements of cities in the Swachh Survekshan, we are introducing the ‘Super Swachh League’, a competition featuring the most pristine cities.”

Within this new league, the 12 cities have secured top three rankings in the cleanliness competition for at least two years between 2021 and 2023.

In the future, the top three ranked cities in each population category will be promoted to the league for upcoming years.

Local Urban Bodies (ULBs) within this league will be evaluated based on additional aspirational metrics and must sustain a score of 85 percent or higher to keep their position, as stated by the minister.

The cities included in the Super Swachh League are – Panchgani and Patan in the Very Small Cities category (< 20,000 population); Vita and Sasvad in the Small Cities category (20,000 – 50,000 population); Ambikapur, Tirupati, and New Delhi Municipal Council in the Medium Cities category (50,000 – 3 lakh population); Noida and Chandigarh in the Big Cities category (3 – 10 lakh population), and Navi Mumbai, Indore, and Surat in the Million Plus Cities category (>10 lakh population).
