NDMC Launches Pilot Initiative for Round-the-Clock Drinking Water Supply in Lutyens' Delhi, Including Slum Areas

New Delhi, Dec 2 (NationPress) The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) is prepared to initiate its pilot initiative aimed at delivering consistent drinking water supply to every household in Lutyens' Delhi, including slum areas and cluster regions.
"This project represents an extension of the Jal Jeevan Mission – Har Ghal Jal Yojana led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, and it will guarantee a 24x7 water supply for the residents of NDMC,” stated Kuljeet Chahal, Vice-chairman of NDMC on Monday.
Kuljeet Chahal, in a conversation with IANS, mentioned that the municipal corporation has crafted a comprehensive and detailed plan to ensure a 24-hour water supply to all households under its jurisdiction, including slums.
"In alignment with PM Modi's vision of Viksit Bharat, this initiative aims to provide drinking water to every household, including those in slums within the area. All necessary arrangements are being put in place for this purpose," he added.
He also pointed out the various challenges involved in executing this ambitious project, noting a budget increase from Rs 1.8 crore to Rs 3 crore, with significant support from the Centre.
Moreover, he shared plans for installing new and larger pipelines, establishing new water treatment plants, and addressing infrastructural challenges to achieve the set targets.
"There are approximately 32 slum cluster areas in the NDMC region, including the constituency of Arvind Kejriwal. We are committed to ensuring that all households receive tap water," he stated.
However, he criticized the AAP government for not delivering on its promises, accusing it of misleading the public.
Kuljeet Chahal also expressed disappointment that former Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, despite being an MLA from New Delhi multiple times, has remained a ‘non-member’ of the NDMC Council.
Regarding the upcoming Delhi elections in early 2025, he predicted that the 'inefficient and inept' AAP would be ousted, paving the way for the BJP to secure a government with a majority exceeding two-thirds.
