Has the Delhi government released Rs 820 crore to MCD for development projects?

New Delhi, June 6 (NationPress) The Delhi government has allocated Rs 820 crore to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as the initial installment of its annual budget for development projects.

Moreover, Rs 8 crore has been granted to the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), along with Rs 5.5 crore to the Delhi Cantonment Board.

In a noteworthy step, Rs 146 crore has been set aside as a subsidy for the Delhi Jal Board to facilitate its free drinking water initiative.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta emphasized that this financial support will not only expedite development initiatives but also assist in realizing the vision of a fully developed Delhi.

The allocation stems from the Basic Tax Assignment (BTA) framework and has been approved by the Urban Development Department.

CM Gupta reiterated the government's dedication to ensuring that local entities receive their rightful share promptly.

“Our mission is to transform Delhi into a contemporary and developed capital, and local bodies are essential to that process. With this in mind, we have disbursed the first tranche of funds: Rs 820 crore to MCD, Rs 8 crore to NDMC, and Rs 5.5 crore to the Cantonment Board,” she stated.

She criticized previous administrations for being inconsistent in fund release, frequently causing delays or partial disbursements.

In stark contrast, her administration is committed to providing timely and complete payments, enabling civic bodies to execute development tasks without financial obstacles.

This release marks the first installment, with the total allocation for FY 2025-26 amounting to Rs 3,282.26 crore for MCD, Rs 32.36 crore for NDMC, and Rs 22.19 crore for the Cantonment Board.

Addressing the water supply situation, the Chief Minister also unveiled the allocation of Rs 146 crore to the Delhi Jal Board as a subsidy to bolster the free drinking water program, particularly for economically disadvantaged groups.

CM Gupta remarked, “During this sweltering summer, our priority is to ensure clean and sufficient drinking water for every citizen of Delhi. Water is a basic right, not a privilege. It is the government's duty to guarantee that every household has access to safe and adequate drinking water.”

She further explained that this subsidy is not merely about offering free water but also about enhancing institutions like the Delhi Jal Board to ensure a reliable and quality water supply throughout the city.

CM Gupta asserted, “We are committed to delivering clean drinking water to every lane and neighbourhood. This is not just a slogan, it is our pledge, and we are working tirelessly to fulfill it.”
