Synopsis
Key Takeaways
New Delhi, March 31 (NationPress) On Tuesday, Delhi's Lieutenant Governor T.S. Sandhu visited the Kamla Nagar Market, located near Delhi University, where he engaged with local residents and pledged to address their pressing issues, such as parking, sanitation, security, women’s safety, and the steep rental rates for students in PG accommodations.
In his characteristic style of spontaneous citizen engagement, Sandhu explored the market area in the afternoon with minimal security, reminiscing about his college days while enjoying beloved street food he indulged in as a student years ago.
He interacted with college students and assessed the challenges faced by the community, setting a new benchmark for public accessibility and interaction from the Lok Niwas.
In a social media update, the LG noted, “Strolled down memory lane at the iconic Kamla Nagar Market near University of Delhi. Engaged with shopkeepers, workers, vendors, shoppers, tourists, and students — who continue to flock to ‘K Nags’ with the same vibrant energy.”
“I even got to enjoy the ever-popular Chache Di Hatti Chole Bhature,” added the LG.
“I had meaningful discussions with locals regarding crucial civic issues, including parking, sanitation, security, women’s safety, and the high costs of PG accommodations for students. I will be taking these matters to the appropriate departments and officers to ensure they are resolved promptly,” he stated.
On Sunday, Sandhu unexpectedly visited Connaught Place to personally connect with the business community and daily visitors.
A statement revealed that he aimed to evaluate urban management and public infrastructure efficiency during his visit.
Throughout the visit, the LG highlighted a ‘bottom-up’ governance approach, ensuring that direct engagement aligns administrative actions with the highest standards of service.
“He also honored Delhi Fateh Diwas at the renowned Red Fort, commemorating the Khalsa’s triumph in 1783 under Baba Baghel Singh’s leadership. Such proactive oversight is vital for preserving the dignity and smooth operation of the National Capital’s emblematic sites,” stated a Lok Niwas announcement.
