New Delhi, July 1 (NationPress) Vice Chairman Kuljeet Singh Chahal of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) introduced a comprehensive roadmap on Tuesday to enhance art, culture, and heritage throughout the New Delhi region.
He highlighted that this initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, aiming to establish New Delhi as a vibrant center of artistic brilliance and cultural expression.
A key element of this plan is the establishment of a dedicated Art District, where 10 of India's leading sculptors have been invited, with eight already on board.
These artists will propose large-scale sculptures, each measuring between 10 to 15 feet tall, which are set to be installed at prominent cultural sites such as Mandi House, National School of Drama, FICCI Auditorium, Shri Ram Centre, India Gate-NGMA, Hyderabad House, Travancore Bhawan, and Triveni Kala Sangam.
Notable artists participating include Raghav R. Kaneria, Ved Nair, Padma Shri Biman B. Das, Padma Shri Rajendra Tikku, K. Radhakrishnan, and Arun Pandit, along with tributes to the legacies of the late Satish Gujral and Nagji Patel.
To maintain high artistic standards and relevance to local contexts, NDMC will establish a Selection and Advisory Committee led by the Consultant (Art & Culture), NDMC.
This committee will include national and international experts who will guide the selection process for artworks, participating artists, materials, scale, and installation sites.
Chahal also announced the hosting of an International Sculpture Symposium, which will gather 15 acclaimed sculptors, including 10 from India and five from abroad.
Many of these artists are recipients of prestigious Padma and National Awards. They will create sculptures live during a dedicated workshop in New Delhi.
Furthermore, the NDMC VC revealed plans for a National Painting Symposium, inviting 15 renowned painters from across the nation to engage in a creative residency.
The artworks generated will be exhibited in a curated show and later displayed at various NDMC venues to enrich public spaces with compelling visual narratives.
